Note about the catagories on these charts:

  • Other -- False alarm and smoke checks where there was a permitted burn
or no fire. Misc calls such as power line down and fuel spills.
  • Medical -- Medical emergencies and assistance other than vehicle accidents,
often resulting in hospital transportation by Hondo Med 1 or County Med 80.
  • MVA -- Traffic accidents with or without injuries.
  • Fire -- Actual fires requiring control by firefighters. Includes Brush, Structure,
and Vehicle fires that may have Medical or MVA components.
  • Aid -- Giving assistance to other Fire Districts. Most usually for fires,

Some interesting distributions
culled from three years of call data
(June 2007 through August 2010)

Overall breakdown of the types of calls.

Percentage of days on which the indicated number of calls occurs.
The gray "Poisson" values are what one would expect
if our calls/day were completely randomly distributed.
As you can see there is a small divergence from random on
days that have a large number of calls (7 and 8).

Percentage of calls by day of the week.

Percentage of calls by time of day.

Digging deeper -- The distribution of intervals between calls

Percentage of calls which occur within the number of hours indicated.
The mean value is the average number of hours between calls
and the median is the cutoff where 50% of our calls occur.
The dark "expondist" line is what one would expect if our call
interval spacing were completely randomly distributed. This is
similar to how long you would expect to wait in a line that had
the given average "service rate". As you can see there is a
consistant divergence at short intervals and around the 24 hour mark.
This may be due to the uneven Time-of-Day distribution of calls.
